About the role
- Senior Software Engineer owning backend services, cloud infrastructure, and production reliability for Mozilla’s privacy-focused open-source internet products. Leading development across Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead backend development and maintain server-side logic
- Own services end to end, including deployment, operation, and production health
- Maintain and improve production environments with CloudEng
- Implement monitoring and alerting using tools such as OpenTelemetry, Sentry, Prometheus, and Grafana
- Participate in on-call/off-hours support rotations
- Triage and resolve production issues, investigate incidents, and address bug reports
- Handle releases, dependency updates, and incoming stakeholder requests during support rotations
- Apply AI-assisted development tools appropriately
- Partner with frontend, platform, product, Cloud Engineering, UX, design, and support stakeholders
- Contribute to API design and data contracts
- Participate in code reviews
- Participate in security and privacy reviews
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in software development with a strong backend focus
- Strong professional experience with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust building backend services
- Experience leading backend engineering projects
- Proficiency with PostgreSQL and SQL query optimization
- Experience with relational schema design and migrations using a query builder such as Knex
- Hands-on DevOps experience on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Experience with Docker-based build and deployment pipelines
- Experience deploying, operating, and troubleshooting cloud services
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Sentry and Grafana
- Experience owning services end to end in production
- Experience with on-call or off-hours production support
- Experience mentoring junior engineers
- Experience driving technical excellence in code quality, testing, and process improvements
