About the role

  • Software Development Manager leading PayByPhone’s SaaS vehicle services team. Driving architecture, delivery, hiring, service operations, and team growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the software development team to deliver a world-class PayByPhone platform experience
  • Plan, release, and schedule development with Product Management
  • Determine scope and ensure features meet requirements
  • Provide estimates and initial assessments for proposed development tasks
  • Track and report project progress against milestones and keep stakeholders updated
  • Coordinate cross-functionally across internal and external teams to drive product development
  • Manage and triage the team backlog, including defect tickets
  • Serve as Scrum Master and remove roadblocks
  • Own technical design and architecture outcomes within the team
  • Ensure software and technology adhere to development, operational, and budget guidelines
  • Operate and maintain team services and maintain a rotating on-call incident escalation and response process
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement
  • Source, interview, and hire technology candidates
  • Improve software development onboarding and documentation
  • Conduct regular 1-on-1s, performance and development reviews, objective setting, and feedback
  • Enable collaboration, innovation, and team growth
  • Keep current with software development and testing best practices

Requirements

  • Involved in the inception, design, development, and operation of a SaaS service or significant subcomponent
  • Able to quickly become productive in an unfamiliar platform, given appropriate historical guidance
  • Experience as a software development manager or software team leader in an Agile development environment
  • Experience working in a global SaaS organization, including understanding of architectural concepts
  • Experience working with legacy code and improving it in-place or with a greenfield replacement
  • Past experience as a developer
  • Able to capture requirements and write high-quality acceptance criteria
  • Deep understanding of a production environment for a team’s applications, technology, and collaborators
  • Service-level design and documentation experience
  • People management experience, including appraisals and objective setting
  • Experience leading a team focused on building core technology features
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver complex features
  • Excellent people management skills, including hiring and growing a talented team of engineers
  • 7+ years of industry experience
  • Relevant industry experience and/or a degree in Computer Science/equivalent
  • Must maintain a personal data plan to fulfill on-call support responsibilities
