About the role
- HSE Supervisor overseeing safety systems, inspections, training, and contractor compliance for PCL’s QEII healthcare expansion project in Halifax. Advising field teams on regulatory and environmental requirements.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and advise field activity compliance with multiple safety management systems and legislative regulatory requirements.
- Implement and support project HSE plans, regulatory requirements, and safe work practices.
- Identify, evaluate, develop and deliver project-specific HSE training.
- Implement district HSE communication strategies on projects.
- Recognize, evaluate, and advise on hazard identification.
- Lead and conduct project HSE inspections and monitor the quality and effectiveness of inspections and trade safety plans.
- Develop and evaluate the project emergency response plan, site-specific security requirements, and environmental plan.
- Monitor and audit trade contractor HSE performance.
- Participate in on-site investigative processes and evaluate corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.
- Coach, train and mentor HSE Coordinators and other employees.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
- Holds safety designation.
- 5 years’ experience in a health and safety role in a related industry.
- Previous experience in a supervisory role an asset.
- Solid understanding of applicable OH&S and environmental legislation and HSE processes.
- Conflict resolution skills, with the ability to problem-solve.
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to develop, influence, and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
- Strong working knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
- Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
- Ability to work Saturdays as required to meet project schedules and operational demands.
