About the role

  • Production Supervisor overseeing night-shift food manufacturing operations at Ventura Foods Canada. Ensuring safety, quality, productivity, compliance and team performance in Toronto.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise production shifts to maintain product flow according to production requirements, customer specifications and productivity targets
  • Ensure product and packaging quality, efficiency, shop-floor logistics, staffing, product costs, run times, line efficiencies and operational capacity
  • Ensure daily production schedules are met and communicate issues accurately and promptly
  • Monitor shift production against plans and paperwork and communicate progress within the team
  • Oversee and assist team members in production activities
  • Ensure QC protocols and required documentation are completed accurately and on time
  • Ensure raw materials and packaging are available for the production plan
  • Ensure work follows SOPs, GMPs, food safety requirements and health and safety standards
  • Deliver training on production SOPs, GMPs, equipment and health and safety standards
  • Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping standards
  • Conduct line handovers between shifts with complete documentation and accurate briefings
  • Ensure maintenance, sanitation and health and safety protocols are followed
  • Verify assigned team members’ timekeeping logs daily
  • Ensure compliance with WSIB, HACCP, WHMIS and workplace health and safety legislation and codes
  • Support R&D, QC, Maintenance/Engineering and Production Department Managers in troubleshooting and problem resolution
  • Report to the Production Manager as part of the Operations Team

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3–5 years supervisory experience
  • Experience in Food Manufacturing facilities
  • Post secondary education in a related field
  • Hands-on and results-oriented supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of preventative equipment maintenance and general mechanical processes
  • Knowledge of HACCP, USDA, OSHA and other regulatory standards
  • Ability to maintain or exceed goals on yields, productivity and efficiencies
  • Ability to understand and interpret safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Leadership and supervision of production staff
  • Ability to work with a diverse workforce
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to sustain interpersonal and labour relations across cultural and ethnic diversity
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • Ability to diagnose and coordinate activities to solve mechanical manufacturing issues
  • Ability to meet physical demands including intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing and pulling
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds or more with assistance may be required
  • Willingness and ability to wear personal protective equipment
  • Willingness to work typical 8–12 hour shifts, additional unscheduled time, and weekends as required
