About the role

  • Construction Manager leading safety, scheduling, quality, and commissioning for Qualus transmission and distribution projects. Managing field execution and client coordination across British Columbia.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all on-site Power System Safety Protection (PSSP) Person in Charge (PIC) duties
  • Conduct after-erection inspection and offline construction of projects or project portions
  • List equipment or circuit items, including outstanding deficiencies and safety hazards
  • Coordinate staging and energization sequencing and develop staging plans
  • Ensure construction work follows Qualus engineering drawings, design standards, and contractual requirements
  • Ensure project execution follows the Project Management Plan and serve as the point of contact between the construction workforce and Qualus Engineering
  • Manage the Safety Management Plan, site Environmental Management Plan, Quality Management Plan, RFIs, Change Notices, NCRs, commissioning and energizing processes, As-Built completions, and contract compliance
  • Assist the Project Manager with contracts, bid evaluation, landowner concerns, vegetation or access issues, constructability reviews, construction scheduling, and outage identification
  • Implement continuous improvements to improve project performance
  • Maintain Qualus T&D contractual responsibilities and client/third-party relationships
  • Monitor construction and commissioning for schedule changes; track and report progress daily, weekly, and monthly
  • Identify schedule risks, recommend corrective action, or escalate issues
  • Monitor and audit construction and materials-management documentation for quality compliance
  • Manage and respond to RFIs, issue Site Instructions and NCRs, and coordinate energization documentation

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the construction, maintenance, controls or commissioning of Substations and/or Power Lines with a strong focus in electrical background
  • Academic qualifications/experience to enable effective interface at the engineering and management level
  • Capacity to successfully manage multiple and competing priorities and timelines
  • Superior analytical, problem solving, audit and investigation skills
  • Demonstrated effective leadership interacting with multiple internal disciplines and external customers in areas of civil, structural and electrical design
  • Working knowledge of contract terms and conditions with the ability to manage to the specification of a contract
  • Excellent and professional communication, interpersonal and team building skills within a diverse work group
  • Ability to work autonomously with frequent travel to remote site locations within an assigned geographical region
  • Experience as a Site Safety Coordinator considered an asset
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving abstract
  • Available to travel within BC
