About the role

  • Dietary Aide providing food services for residents at Tall Pines Long Term Care home. Responsible for meal preparation, kitchen maintenance, and resident assistance during dining.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food and beverages as per food production schedule and posted menu.
  • May cook simple dishes (including breakfast), pan, tend and remove items from the stove, microwave, retherm cart etc
  • Maintain the kitchen, dining rooms and serveries in a clean and orderly manner which includes cleaning assigned areas on a daily and weekly basis, in addition to the cleaning of equipment
  • Wash, scour and sanitize pots, pans and utensils
  • Portion and serve meals in the dining rooms and prepare trays for distribution to other areas according to the Dietary Census
  • Provide assistance to the residents in the dining room as necessary
  • Work with the team to enhance the quality of life for residents and promote a pleasurable dining experience
  • May set up dining room tables just prior to the next meal and complete clean-up and warewashing duties after meals
  • Assist with dining room decorations for special and seasonal theme days
  • May update dietary records as required
  • Obtain food and supplies and assist in the receiving, distributing, checking and storing of supplies
  • Set up and deliver menu items and equipment to designated areas
  • Accept and follow through on directions from the Cook in the performance of job duties in the absence of the Dietary Services Supervisor
  • Maintain good relationships with the residents, staff, volunteers and visitors
  • Attend in-service education sessions, staff meetings, workshops, etc. as directed by the Dietary Services Supervisor
  • Assist in the orientation of new dietary staff
  • Participate in relevant aspects of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program to evaluate and improve client services
  • Participate in committees as required
  • Report health and safety hazards, actively participate in eliminating causes of accidents, and perform emergency occupational health and safety measures as required (WHIMS, Infection Control, Fire)
  • Follow policies and procedures as outlined in the Centre’s manuals

Requirements

  • High School diploma
  • Certification under the Food Service Worker Certificate program at a college of applied arts and technology or a Food Service Worker Program provided by a private career college.
  • Must have a valid Food Safety Certification course (Food Handlers Training) or be willing to complete the Food Safety Certification program within 30 days within hire.
  • Food Service Worker Certificate as approved by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s program standards
  • Must be physically able to perform all delegated duties
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors
  • Strong desire to work in a food service setting and ability to relate to older adults
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
