About the role

  • Subforeperson supervising staff, contractors, equipment, and safety at Peel Region’s Community Recycling Centres. Operating waste transfer and compost/curing facilities in Brampton.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise staff and contracted services on site
  • Ensure work is performed efficiently, safely, within allotted time, and according to Regional standards
  • Instruct and train the workforce
  • Direct staff activities and assign duties
  • Oversee site operations, including mechanical/electrical services, heavy equipment, Community Recycling Centres, waste transfer, and compost/curing facilities
  • Advise the Foreperson of problems and provide recommendations
  • Investigate complaints, faults, and problems; determine causes and recommend solutions
  • Ensure vehicles receive daily circle checks and preventative maintenance
  • Report problems or damage to the Area Foreperson or supervisor
  • Participate in inspections and safety audits
  • Report health and safety hazards and apply safety precautions
  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive image of the Region of Peel
  • Operate manual and power equipment at Community Recycling Centres and compost/curing facilities

Requirements

  • Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Class AZ license with 3 years of driving experience
  • Basic knowledge of Waste Management and CRC operations
  • Minimum 3 years of work-related experience
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to accurately complete required forms and reports
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance on assigned equipment
  • Leadership qualities to supervise and train staff
  • Physically able to perform all duties and requirements of the job
  • Knowledge and ability to operate heavy equipment
  • Transfer station operator and/or Compost Operator certified through SWANA or willing to be trained
  • Satisfactory Level 1 Criminal Record Check obtained directly from a police station
  • Preference given to qualified candidates already in the CUPE 966 Public Works bargaining unit
