About the role
- Senior engineer building scalable route-planning features for Samsara’s Connected Operations IoT platform. Improving fleet efficiency through AI, routing products, APIs, and customer-focused engineering.
Responsibilities
- Design and build end-to-end features across frontend and backend for diverse customer industries
- Leverage AI to prototype solutions, unblock customer deals, and accelerate risk-reducing refactors
- Partner with the engineering manager and staff engineers to advocate for technical excellence
- Collaborate with the product manager and designer to build efficient planner interfaces and APIs
- Mentor junior engineers and help build a strong technical bench
- Measure efficiency across Routing products, including route execution and commercial navigation
- Participate in customer interviews and collaborate with customer success and product managers
- Use metrics to ensure engineering work improves customer outcomes
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- 6+ years of experience as a software engineer
- Demonstrated ability executing in ambiguous environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with technical audiences and customers
- Proven experience shaping and improving routing and navigation products
- Experience mentoring junior engineers
- Track record of thriving in 0→1 teams and scaling them through the post–startup phase
- Experience operating as a tech lead or in a similar technical role directly impacting other engineers’ output
- Willingness to engage directly with customers when needed
- Must reside in the US or Canada
