About the role

  • Financial modelling intern supporting Sapling Financial Consultants’ client modelling, due diligence, and analytics work. Building financial models, KPI dashboards, research, and presentation materials.

Responsibilities

  • Build comprehensive and complex financial models covering operations, capital structure, working capital, and full financial statements
  • Develop quality of earnings databooks and reports for companies undergoing M&A processes
  • Synthesize financial, accounting, operational, and other information to normalize earnings and provide assurance around claimed earnings
  • Conduct market, industry, and company research for clients
  • Develop decks and reports for business plans, business cases, valuations, financial analyses, and related documents
  • Develop financial and data analyses that provide actionable insights to management
  • Construct spreadsheets using data from accounting/finance, operational, HR, web database, and other systems
  • Develop and implement dynamic spreadsheet tools based on client needs
  • Build automated KPI dashboards to identify business trends and support short- and long-term finance strategy
  • Assist with proposals, government bids, marketing materials, white papers, blogs, emails, and webinars as required
  • Collaborate with the consulting team and work with minimal oversight

Requirements

  • 2nd year students and above enrolled in a business program
  • Interest in financial modelling and due diligence
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills
  • Ability to work with spreadsheets
  • Knowledge of Power BI, Tableau, SQL or MySQL databases, and programming languages such as C#, VBA, Python, or R is welcomed but not required
  • Intellectual curiosity and passion for learning about new industries, businesses, and technical skills
  • Ability to take ownership of responsibilities through completion
  • Ability to work independently and manage time and multiple tasks, deadlines, and deliverables
  • Strong dedication to the team and excellent work ethic
  • Enthusiasm about going above and beyond to ensure clients achieve their business goals
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week
  • Resume, transcripts, and portfolio with financial model examples required for application
