About the role

Senior Substation Physical Electrical Engineer developing and leading HV substation design at Stantec. Seeking an experienced engineer with strong problem-solving skills in a client-focused environment.

Responsibilities

Develop and lead all aspects of HV substation design.
Perform QA/QC of electrical engineering design packages.
Work closely with Project Managers to meet project timelines for engineering deliverables.
Determine appropriate allocation of resources and track man-hours on projects.
Review, comment, and approve electrical design & drawings for substation construction packages for codes and standards compliance.
Work with the P&C team to produce complete station drawings.
Attend client interactions and project status meetings.
Participate in project planning meetings and reviews.

Ability to lead a team of engineers working on Substation design, including interdisciplinary coordination.
Experience with site visits, to capture all technical data needed for estimates and execution of related substation expansions.
Capable of producing station one lines, key plans (layouts), conduit plans, lightning, grounding calculations, lighting plans, station typical elevations, and BOMs.
Capable of writing equipment specifications and reviewing vendor drawings.
Ability to develop and maintain good client relationships and be able to demonstrate solid technical ability.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and develop strong internal and external relationships.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
Ability to mentor engineers and designers.
Experience and understanding of AIS and GIS substation designs
Registered PE, or eligible for PE/P. ENG is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field is required.
Minimum of 15 years of experience in utility HV substation design is required.
Experience with site visits, FAT, to capture all technical data needed for estimates and execution of related substation expansions is preferred.
