About the role

  • UX Designer designing intuitive, data-rich interfaces for smart grid platforms used by electric utilities. Leading user research and collaborating with cross-functional teams on innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead user research with utility control room operators, planners, analysts, and field technicians to understand how they engage with AMI, asset, and network data
  • Design wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity UI for web (and optionally mobile) that unify SCADA views, Load Management, Analytics, and AMI applications
  • Define and refine data-centric visualizations for AMI, transformer and asset health, phase identification and load balancing, RF and cellular network health
  • Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and data/analytics teams to translate requirements and models into usable workflows
  • Plan and run usability tests, heuristic evaluations, and feedback sessions with utility users; iterate designs based on findings
  • Document interaction patterns, UX guidelines, and design systems to ensure consistency across AMI, analytics, and networking modules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, Human Factors, or a related field
  • 4+ years of UX experience in SaaS/B2B or enterprise software with complex, data-heavy workflows
  • Strong skills in user-centered design: user research, information architecture, interaction design, and usability testing, with a portfolio demonstrating complex dashboard or analytics work
  • Proficiency with modern UX tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Miro) for creating and communicating flows, prototypes, and design specifications
  • Experience designing interfaces for time-series and geospatial data (maps, timelines, multi-asset lists), especially in industrial, IoT, or operations environments
  • Solid understanding of accessibility and responsive design principles (e.g., WCAG) to support diverse users and viewing contexts in utility operations.
  • Experience with utility, energy, or industrial control domains (e.g., AMI systems, grid operations, SCADA/HMI, asset management, or network operations centers)
  • Familiarity with how protocols and systems such as DNP3, Modbus, RF mesh, and cellular backhaul influence data latency, reliability, and alarm behavior
  • Experience collaborating on or visualizing advanced analytics or predictive models
  • Comfort using product analytics tools (e.g., Mixpanel, GA, or similar) to understand how users interact with dashboards and to inform iterative UX improvements.

Benefits

  • medical, dental and vision plans
  • healthcare and dependent care flexible spending accounts
  • paid time off
