About the role

  • Technical Writer responsible for preparing business documentation for clients in utility consulting. Work involves technical writing, client engagement, and collaboration with subject matter experts.

Responsibilities

  • Attend onsite client discovery sessions, document discussion topics and identify key decisions and follow up items.
  • Prepare recommendation reports or presentations in conjunction with internal subject matter experts.
  • Develop RFP, procurement and evaluation documents for utility clients.
  • Record technical requirements for internal and external projects or reports.
  • Draft reports using established document standards and templates.
  • Work with subject matter experts to refine and finalize reports.
  • Record notes in business process sessions and debrief with the internal lead.
  • Prepare business process documents, diagrams and flow charts for clients that are re-engineering their business processes.
  • Prepare, format and edit pricing spreadsheets, requirements matrices and consensus spreadsheets.
  • Create presentations on a variety of subjects for internal and external projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Communications or related field
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the Utility industry in a consulting, operations or vendor capacity
  • 3-5 years’ technical writing experience
  • Class G drivers’ licence
  • Advanced MS Office skills
  • Intermediate Adobe Acrobat skills
  • Expert knowledge of company documentation standards
  • Advanced knowledge of Util-Assist’s consulting practices and services
  • Advanced knowledge of metering infrastructure and related utility systems
  • Intermediate knowledge of the utility industry, operations and regulatory considerations
  • Intermediate knowledge of company policies, processes and practices
  • Intermediate knowledge of contract documentation including Statements of Work and Master Service Agreements
  • Basic knowledge of the Employment Standards Act and Occupational Health & Safety Act
