About the role

  • Adjudicator determining disability claim entitlements for WCB Alberta. Managing high-volume caseloads and supporting injured workers’ benefits and return to work.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high-volume caseload and make timely, well-informed claims decisions
  • Determine entitlement to medical and financial benefits
  • Identify claims requiring further services or case-manager support
  • Obtain medical opinions and coordinate or authorize medical treatment
  • Liaise with injured workers, employers, health-care providers, and representatives
  • Establish compensation rates and determine wage replacement, medical aid, and non-rate-based entitlements
  • Navigate conflict and lead challenging conversations using de-escalation and empathy
  • Communicate claim updates and decisions by phone, conference calls, and written correspondence
  • Build partnerships and collaborate to meet shared objectives
  • Deliver high-level customer service and educate and negotiate with clients
  • Manage client expectations
  • Maintain timely communication and documentation
  • Uphold the values, principles, and regulations of the Alberta Workers’ Compensation Act

Requirements

  • A degree or diploma in Social Sciences, Rehabilitation or Business is preferred
  • An equivalent combination of related education and relevant experience may be considered
  • Experience in caseload management, including making entitlement decisions, medical management of claims, health care experience, vocational rehabilitation experience or employment counseling experience are assets
  • Ability to create business relationships with partners and reach agreement on courses of action
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload
  • Quick learner with a strong record of personal achievements
  • Goal oriented with solid decision-making and planning skills
  • Reliability and excellent time management skills
  • Proficient computer knowledge and keyboard skills
  • Familiarity with medical or rehabilitative terminology is an asset
  • Ability to understand and apply policy while applying creative problem solving, critical thinking and flexibility in making fair and accurate decisions in a timely manner
  • Effective communication skills, including active listening, collaboration, and verbal and written communication
  • Must be available to attend twelve (12) weeks of training at the time of hire
  • Must work in-office as scheduled during hybrid training
  • Final successful candidates must undergo a security clearance
  • Must submit a cover letter and resume
