About the role

  • Interfacility Transport Coordinator processing emergency-care calls and coordinating medical transportation. Supporting Shared Health’s province-wide patient-centered healthcare services across Manitoba.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and process requests for medical assistance and medical transportation
  • Manage incoming calls and prioritize, coordinate, and work with dispatch agencies on medical response and transportation needs
  • Obtain caller information and communicate it to the VECTRS team
  • Dispatch information using a variety of digital tools and resources
  • Interact with medical personnel and public safety agencies
  • Answer and process calls for service and requests for assistance
  • Triage the nature of injuries and illnesses
  • Monitor and operate communication systems and document essential communications
  • Receive, record, and maintain support information for each case
  • Process low-acuity calls and administrative requests, enter information into the computer system, and refer callers to appropriate clinical personnel
  • Advise law enforcement and other agencies when their involvement is required
  • Receive and provide information from law enforcement, hospitals, agencies, and institutions to the VECTRS Team
  • Collaborate with co-workers to promote efficient departmental, program, and regional operations
  • Promote a safe environment and adhere to Workplace Safety and Health Regulations and Policies
  • Participate in fire prevention, disaster preparedness, safety, health, and evacuation programs
  • Serve as a resource to staff and other health care professionals
  • Maintain and update professional skills through continuing education
  • Provide mentorship and training to team members
  • Participate in committees and regular staff meetings
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

  • Degree/Diploma in a relevant health care or health sciences related discipline from an accredited education institution
  • A combination of education training and/or experience may be considered
  • Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body as appropriate
  • Experience in a call center environment is highly-desirable
  • Knowledge or experience working with Emergency Department Information Systems (EDIS) is an asset
  • Knowledge of Emergency Medical Service/medical transportation communication and operations is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Typing/Keyborading skills at 35 wpm
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to respect and promote confidentiality
  • Competent in Windows based computer programs
  • Strong organizational, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
  • Working knowledge of the provincial geography
  • Ability to work Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends and General Holidays
  • Current satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Current Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Current Adult Abuse Registry Check
  • Copy of required licenses/certification
