About the role

  • Entry-level backend engineer building Yelp’s Trust & Safety services and data pipelines. Supporting real-time enforcement of fake accounts and harmful content across the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build backend services and data pipelines for real-time detection and enforcement of fake accounts and harmful content
  • Write, test, and ship production-grade Python code across the Content Safety enforcement stack
  • Build and maintain internal tooling for moderators and operations teams to review and action flagged content and accounts
  • Maintain and improve enforcement flows that quarantine content, close accounts, and block harmful interactions
  • Collaborate with ML engineers to productionize detection signals and model outputs
  • Participate in code reviews, on-call rotations, and team processes
  • Investigate production issues and contribute fixes across a complex codebase

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Python
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, system design, and clean, tested, maintainable code
  • Familiarity with SQL and basic data processing concepts
  • Ability to ramp quickly on an unfamiliar codebase and ask good questions
  • Clear written and verbal communication for cross-functional work and documentation
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
