About the role

  • ILS Specialist II developing high-quality technical documentation for defence and shipbuilding. Collaborating within cross-functional teams to produce accurate user-focused publications.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, editing, and maintaining high-quality technical documentation to support Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) deliverables within a defence and shipbuilding environment.
  • Transforming complex engineering data into clear, accessible documentation - including operation, maintenance, and Illustrated Parts Catalogs.
  • Collaborating with engineering, logistics, and project teams to produce accurate, compliant, and user-focused technical publications.
  • Ensuring compliance of all deliverables with defence documentation requirements and internal quality management systems.
  • Utilizing authoring and content management tools to create, update, and publish structured documentation efficiently.
  • Performing validation activities, content verification, and publication quality checks.
  • Maintaining version control and managing configuration changes to technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of documentation standards, templates, and authoring processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Communications, English, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience developing technical documentation, preferably within a defence, maritime, or heavy engineering environment.
  • Experience with structured documentation standard.
  • Familiarity with defence/shipbuilding industry standards and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) frameworks is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and translate engineering drawings, data, and specifications into accurate documentation.
  • Strong command of technical writing principles, structure, and formatting for complex systems.
  • Proficient in technical authoring and content management tools, including Hico IPS Suite, R4i, Arbortext, Adobe FrameMaker, Raytheon Eagle, XML editors, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent attention to detail, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Strong understanding of MIL-STD, or DEF STAN documentation frameworks.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple deliverables under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a focus on precision and readability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Analytical approach to identifying content gaps and improving documentation efficiency.
  • Proactive attitude toward continuous improvement and innovation in publication methods.
  • Commitment to upholding safety, quality, and security compliance in a defence environment.
  • Ability to travel domestically occasionally.
