About the role

  • Senior Software Engineer building AlphaSense AI-powered Excel plugins for financial professionals. Improving desktop performance, enterprise integrations, and research workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and build a production-grade Excel plugin integrating AlphaSense's AI capabilities
  • Navigate Excel's object model, calculation engine, and event system to create native-feeling features connected to cloud intelligence
  • Ensure compatibility across Excel 2016, Excel 2019, and Office 365, including corporate proxies, SSO, offline scenarios, and IT restrictions
  • Optimize memory and performance so the plugin does not slow down Excel
  • Translate financial users' needs into intuitive interfaces for AI capabilities
  • Define desktop development patterns and mentor engineers on testing, deployment, and monitoring for Office plugins
  • Ship improvements to AlphaSense's internal Excel add-in and migrate it from legacy infrastructure to AlphaSense's platform
  • Establish the technical foundation and best practices for the Office integration strategy

Requirements

  • 5+ years building production software, with significant experience in desktop applications or Office add-ins
  • Deep expertise in C#, .NET and modern development practices
  • Strong understanding of asynchronous programming, state management, and event-driven architectures
  • Experience with enterprise software deployment, updates, and version management
  • Track record of building performant applications with excellent error handling and recovery
  • Excellence in debugging complex integration issues and memory/performance optimization
  • Strong testing philosophy adapted to desktop environments
  • Ability to mentor teams and establish development best practices
  • Production experience with C#, VSTO, or COM add-ins
  • Knowledge of Excel's calculation engine, object model, and common power-user patterns
  • Knowledge of AWS
  • Understanding of financial modeling, data analysis workflows, or trading systems
  • Experience with web development technologies
  • Familiarity with financial data formats (XLSX, CSV, JSON) and transformations
  • Background in building offline-capable applications with sync mechanisms
  • Experience with WebSocket, real-time data feeds, or streaming architectures
