About the role

  • Senior manager leading Cando’s North American railcar mechanical repair and maintenance services. Developing standards, safety programs, budgets, and asset strategies for reliable, profitable operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of Cando’s railcar mechanical strategy
  • Develop and maintain company-wide railcar mechanical standards, policies, and procedures
  • Build relationships with internal customers, regulators, and industry partners
  • Lead initiatives by establishing goals, securing equipment, developing procedures, and setting schedules
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and identify service needs and operational efficiencies
  • Contribute to strategies and plans to grow mechanical services
  • Develop mechanical training initiatives covering safety, equipment, and regulatory requirements
  • Implement and maintain safety systems and regulatory compliance programs
  • Conduct reviews and audits of safety and operational protocols
  • Analyze rail equipment failures and implement corrective actions
  • Develop site-focused operational solutions based on local needs
  • Support operational excellence across asset utilization, people management, safety, and regulatory compliance
  • Establish annual budgets and monitor material inventory across the Cando system
  • Manage capital and maintenance budgets and identify equipment and maintenance needs
  • Manage railcar asset deployment, including purchasing, refurbishment, and upgrades
  • Monitor industry news, trends, and regulations and develop responsive strategies

Requirements

  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in a management position with full responsibility for multiple site/service offerings
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, commerce, business, or engineering, or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience building safety and service cultures and strong teams
  • Understanding of Safety Management Systems
  • Strong knowledge of railcar fleet maintenance, repair management, equipment loading, quality assurance, and inventory programs
  • Experience in railway or systems management is an asset
  • Proven track record of entrepreneurial leadership
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Ability to develop and communicate clear, concise approaches to enhance and grow operations
  • Strategic thinking and ability to work across the organization and industry
  • Ability to participate in operations and manage multiple customer relationships
  • Commitment to business ethics and safety practices
  • Collaboration and influencing skills with ability to build credibility
  • Strong analytical ability and understanding of business profitability and long-term sustainability
  • Functional computer skills in a Windows-based environment, internet, and MS Office applications
  • Understanding of accounting, marketing, and human resource management processes
