About the role
- Home Visitor supporting Winnipeg families through Manitoba’s Families First public health program. Conducting family-centered visits and promoting parenting, child development, safety, and community connections.
Responsibilities
- Work with families using a strength-based and solution-focused approach
- Promote positive parent-child relationships and healthy childhood growth and development
- Enhance parenting skills and promote family safety and well-being
- Connect families with community resources
- Initiate and maintain regular family-centered home visits
- Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team
- Use evidence-informed curriculum to support positive parent-child interactions
- Consult with and receive guidance from Public Health Nurses
- Support families in exploring goals related to their culture and values
- Implement home-visiting practices according to provincial Families First Program guidelines
- Travel throughout the region/province for training, program needs, and home-visiting services
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with families with young children ages 0–5, or prenatal families in areas related to parenting, within the last five years
- High School Diploma or equivalent, or GED Manitoba Standards
- Successful completion of Families First provincial orientation and training as scheduled
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to adapt to organizational change
- Initiative and ability to take direction
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use curriculum-based resources and adult learning principles
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement strength-based, trauma-informed, and culturally safe practices
- Knowledge of early childhood growth and development from prenatal stages through age five
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint; Internet applications; information technology; and technical equipment
- Fluency in English, including verbal, reading, and written communication
- Physically able to work in varied community settings and weather conditions
- Able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 20 lbs. or 9 kg
- Able to climb stairs, crouch, and kneel or sit on the floor
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout the region/province, including possible overnight accommodations for remote communities
- Evening and weekend work may be required
- Current satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search
- Current Child Abuse Registry Check
- Current Adult Abuse Registry Check
