About the role
- Industrial Mechanic maintaining and troubleshooting food-processing and packaging equipment for Ventura Foods. Performing preventive maintenance, repairs, changeovers, and equipment installations onsite in Toronto.
Responsibilities
- Perform ongoing maintenance, repair, and performance work on production equipment
- Modify, repair, install, maintain, improve, and troubleshoot packing and process equipment in food manufacturing
- Diagnose mechanical problems and provide solutions for equipment breakdowns
- Apply skills in mechanics, fitting, plumbing, basic welding, metal work, machining, troubleshooting, and analytical problem solving
- Conduct preventive maintenance programs according to standards
- Perform equipment changeovers, setup, takedown, and relocation of packaging equipment
- Recommend solutions to routine and unique equipment problems
- Respond to equipment problems in a timely, customer-oriented manner
- Follow GMP, safety standards, SOP, SPC, quality, sanitation, and security policies
- Support timely and effective line handover between shifts, including documentation and briefings
- Acquire new skills through provided training
- Perform other work assigned by an authorized Supervisor or Team Leader
Requirements
- 443A Millwright license required
- 5 years of experience
- Previous experience with processing and packaging equipment such as homogenizers, process valves, pumps, heat exchangers, rotary fillers, and bottle sleevers
- High School Diploma Preferred
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings
- Ability to operate machine shop equipment
- Ability to conduct preventive maintenance programs according to standards
- Ability to follow maintenance, sanitation, and Health & Safety protocols
- Ability to complete shift-handover documentation and accurately brief others on progress/issues
- Ability to work 8–12 hour shifts, with possible unscheduled after-hours and weekend work
- Willingness and ability to wear required personal protective equipment
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and occasional lifting/moving up to 50 pounds or more with assistance
- Ability to work in adverse temperatures, with vibrations, chemicals, fumes, food allergens, confined/dark spaces, and at heights over 18 feet
