About the role
- Staff Software Engineer building Go backend systems, APIs, entitlements, and onboarding services for Chainguard’s secure open-source software supply-chain platform. Providing technical leadership across engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Own features end-to-end from design through implementation, rollout, and iteration
- Partner closely with Product Management and Chainguard teams
- Design, build, and evolve backend systems in Go with REST/gRPC APIs
- Power entitlement, policy, and customer onboarding services
- Serve as the primary technical interface between Customer Platform and engineering teams including Containers, Libraries, and OS packages
- Understand team requirements and build integration paths
- Extend Chainguard's agentic AI foundation into customer-facing product experiences
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to senior and mid-level engineers
- Help the team break down ambiguity and build toward clear outcomes
- Contribute to a product-driven roadmap, prioritize tradeoffs, and ship iteratively
Requirements
- Production Go experience
- Strong ownership of API design and backend systems at scale
- Experience shipping and operating backend systems in production
- Experience working across multiple engineering teams on technical standards, integration patterns, and shared infrastructure
- Ability to operate in ambiguity and provide a diagnosis, recommendation, and path forward
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and provide technical guidance without a management title
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud provider APIs is a strong plus
- Experience with entitlements, billing systems, or platform infrastructure is a plus but not required
- Prior exposure to building or extending AI-powered product features is a plus
