About the role

Responsibilities
- Lead the analysis, design, development, and maintenance of mission-critical IBM i applications supporting business operations
- Design architectural solutions that bridge the reliability of legacy systems with modern efficiency
- Work independently while collaborating as part of a team
- Provide consulting services to clients to support their business application systems
- Guide clients in resolving application issues, identify business needs, and deliver solutions throughout the project lifecycle
- Analyze, design, code, and test software applications using all versions of RPG and SQL
- Ensure the integrity of programs and applications throughout various testing phases
- Translate system architecture into clear written and visual documentation for technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Lead a small technical team as needed
- Lead code reviews for logic and database changes
- Help clients transform their existing business applications into modern, scalable ILE solutions
Requirements
- More than 20 years of proven experience on the IBM i platform (iSeries / AS/400)
- Proficiency in various versions of RPG, particularly RPGLE, including Free-form syntax and embedded SQL
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with JDA/MMS (required)
- Expert-level application programming and database modeling skills with DB2
- In-depth understanding of ILE concepts (modules, service programs, binding directories)
- Experience with structured deployment and version-control processes
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with stakeholders at various levels within client organizations
- Ability to explain the technical “why” in business terms to decision-makers and the technical “how” in technical terms to developers
- Experience with major ERP systems on IBM i (Infor LX, BPCS, Infor XA, MAPICS, PRMS, JDE, Frontier, HFA, etc.)
- Experience with RDi (Rational Developer for i) or Eclipse-based IDEs
- Practical knowledge of Git or SVN in an IBM i environment
- Experience with impact analysis tools
- Experience with integration solutions using APIs, JSON, XML, and other specialized tools such as GoAnywhere
