About the role

  • Senior Project Manager coordinating project activities for Hamilton’s Recreation Division. Leading efforts in process management, quality assurance, business planning, and public consultation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coordinate and manage a broad range of project-related activities and programs for the Recreation Division
  • Provide staff leadership on multi-disciplinary project teams towards improved effectiveness, efficiency, and public service
  • Develop, recommend and provide professional advice on process management, quality assurance, business continuity, and program changes
  • Manage projects, process improvements, studies, public consultation, and communication to advance work and mandate of the division
  • Responsible for indoor studies and recommendations reviews, new park development, and lease space recommendations
  • Skilled in report writing, budgeting, financial management, and conducting feasibility studies
  • Confirm funding and commitments from sponsors, stakeholders and project team members
  • Manage, monitor and review project financials, resources and risks to ensure completion within schedule and budget
  • Lead strategic projects, program reviews, and business case development
  • Provide support to the Division Director in quality assurance standards, project methodology and management

Requirements

  • Previous related work experience through completion of university degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Economics or equivalent education and experience
  • Additional experience and education in Recreation Studies such as Recreation and Leisure Studies
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in recreation portfolio functions: program management for sports organizations, community development, and program development for seniors, aquatics, special needs and fitness
  • Previous experience in municipal recreation agreements and budgets principles, practices, policies, report writing, and feasibility studies
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with scheduling software such as CLASS software or equivalent
  • Experience with the Municipal Benchmarking Network Canada (MBN Canada) and Lean Six Sigma preferred
  • Demonstrated skill in business planning and analysis, business case development, project management, data analysis and financial management
  • Experience in organizational management and/or operational management considered an asset
  • Extensive project management experience in process improvement, organizational effectiveness, quality assurance and continuous improvement
  • Proven track record in successful development and implementation of large-scale and diverse business improvement projects
  • Thorough knowledge of quality assurance and continuous improvement methodologies and practices
  • Effective communicator, both orally and written, honed through practical experience
  • Highly developed ability to articulate a vision to lead and inspire others
  • Highly effective leadership, facilitation, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Experience in business continuity and contingency planning
  • Strong knowledge of process and performance measures and methodologies.
  • Progressive supervisory experience through direct or indirect reporting relationships.
  • Strong computer skills with thorough knowledge of Microsoft productivity tools including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
