About the role

  • Senior Project Manager managing occupational health and safety programs for the City of Hamilton. Leading compliance initiatives and program development within a diverse team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of the City’s corporate occupational health and safety programs
  • Oversee the development of policy, procedures, guidelines, tools, resources, and training
  • Collaborate with leaders, employees, Joint Health and Safety Committees, union representatives and other stakeholders
  • Conduct periodic investigations, testing, gap analysis, risk assessments, sampling and/or inspections
  • Collect, analyze, and report on occupational health, safety and wellness data
  • Develop and deliver corporate and/or departmental occupational health and safety audits
  • Maintain knowledge of changing legislation and communicate recommendations to achieve compliance
  • Develop and deliver education and training programs to foster risk mitigation and compliance

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in occupational health and safety or risk management
  • Relevant professional designation as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) or Certified Health and Safety Consultant is an asset
  • Project Management Certification is an asset
  • Change Management Certification is an asset
  • Extensive years of experience driving results in occupational health and safety performance in a unionized public or private sector organization
  • Subject matter expertise pertaining to occupational health and safety legislation and regulations (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, Employment Standards Act, Highway Traffic Act, etc.)
  • High proficiency in risk management
  • Exceptional knowledge of factors that pose potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace
  • Extensive experience leading projects and full-cycle program development, including evaluation
  • Demonstrated experience designing evidence informed occupational health and safety programs, training, and e-learning
  • Experience with e-learning software (e.g. Articulate)
