Responsibilities
Lead strategic planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of the City’s corporate occupational health and safety programs
Oversee the development of policy, procedures, guidelines, tools, resources, and training
Collaborate with leaders, employees, Joint Health and Safety Committees, union representatives and other stakeholders
Collect, analyze, and report on occupational health, safety and wellness data
Develop and deliver corporate and/or departmental occupational health and safety audits
Maintain knowledge of changing legislation and communicate recommendations to achieve compliance
Develop and deliver education and training programs to foster risk mitigation and compliance
Requirements
Post-secondary education in occupational health and safety or risk management
Relevant professional designation as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) or Certified Health and Safety Consultant is an asset
Project Management Certification is an asset
Change Management Certification is an asset
Extensive years of experience driving results in occupational health and safety performance in a unionized public or private sector organization
Subject matter expertise pertaining to occupational health and safety legislation and regulations (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, Employment Standards Act, Highway Traffic Act, etc.)
High proficiency in risk management
Exceptional knowledge of factors that pose potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace
Extensive experience leading projects and full-cycle program development, including evaluation
Demonstrated experience designing evidence informed occupational health and safety programs, training, and e-learning
Experience with e-learning software (e.g. Articulate)
