About the role

  • Engineering manager leading teams and AI adoption at Jobber, whose software helps small home-service businesses quote, schedule, invoice, and collect payments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support software engineering team members in developing skills and advancing careers
  • Contribute to empowering small businesses through technology
  • Shape the technical direction of Jobber’s platform
  • Ensure the platform remains reliable and high-performing as Jobber scales
  • Facilitate team performance and help engineers master their crafts
  • Set goals, conduct regular one-on-ones, provide constructive feedback and coaching
  • Understand employees’ career direction and mentor and coach them
  • Participate in recruiting events and the hiring process
  • Develop the engineering department and implement new processes
  • Set expectations for daily use of AI agents and coach engineers on AI adoption
  • Hold AI-assisted work to the same quality bar as other work
  • Remove roadblocks and build guardrails with other engineering leaders
  • Collaborate with Product management and Business Technology stakeholders to find solutions for small businesses

Requirements

  • Established software engineering experience and experience in a leadership position guiding a team in delivering quality software
  • Strong full-stack technical background, including design and architectural experience
  • Deep knowledge and experience in either Ruby on Rails environments or ReactJS
  • Experience delivering impactful projects on time
  • Ability to lead and teach a team to adapt to change in an agile environment
  • Daily hands-on experience building with agentic AI tools beyond autocomplete or chat
  • Experience leading a team’s AI adoption, with evidence of changed outcomes
  • Effective written and oral communication
  • Leadership and mentoring experience
  • Familiarity with ReactJS, TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and GraphQL is highly desired
  • Familiarity with maintaining reliability within systems outside your own team is highly desired
  • Experience with high-risk data and high-criticality features, balancing quick delivery with strong reliability, is highly desired
  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Successful completion of a background check, including identity verification, is required
