Staff Lawyer representing Legal Aid Saskatchewan clients in criminal and family law. Conducting proceedings, negotiating resolutions, and managing assigned files for access to justice.
Responsibilities
Conduct assigned files to professional standards and according to Legal Aid Saskatchewan and Law Society of Saskatchewan policies and procedures
Conduct preliminary inquiries, pre-trials, case conferences, trials, reviews, and appeals
Negotiate competent file resolutions to achieve fair, early, and lasting client outcomes
Represent clients at bail hearings, guilty pleas, and remands in person and remotely
Work independently on cases assigned by the Legal Director
Complete accurate time entries and maintain records
Requirements
Law degree from a recognized law school
Minimum of five plus years of criminal and family law experience
Experience in family law
Experience in criminal law
Member in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan
Familiarity with the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action
Familiarity with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
Technologically savvy and enthusiastic about learning new systems
Computer literacy in MS Office
Proficiency with web-based legal research tools and other web-based resources
Commitment to social justice and understanding of low-income and marginalized communities
Demonstrated time management skills
Ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines
Valid Class 5 driver's licence
Successful candidate must provide an acceptable criminal record check
