About the role
- Government relations director advancing Parkinson Canada’s national healthcare access and advocacy priorities. Building stakeholder relationships and influencing policy to improve treatment, services, and supports.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of Parkinson Canada’s health policy, government relations, and advocacy priorities across Canada
- Build relationships with decision-makers and stakeholders to improve access to treatment, services, and supports
- Lead high-priority national initiatives and translate organizational and advocacy goals into actionable plans and measurable outcomes
- Navigate complex healthcare and policy environments while balancing long-term priorities with evolving opportunities
- Build and activate relationships across governments, healthcare organizations, advocacy groups, researchers, industry partners, and community stakeholders
- Facilitate conversations, identify collaboration opportunities, align priorities, and advance shared objectives
- Collaborate with Mission, Partnerships, Marketing and Communications, and Insights teams
- Oversee briefing materials, policy positions, advocacy messaging, stakeholder presentations, and engagement strategies
- Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to team members and external partners
- Monitor healthcare, political, funding, and policy developments and use insights to refine strategies
- Report to the VP, Mission
- Travel occasionally for in-person meetings as needed
Requirements
- Experience in consulting, public affairs, advocacy, government relations, healthcare strategy, or a related environment
- Experience navigating government and healthcare systems
- Experience influencing stakeholders and driving complex initiatives
- Experience navigating complex stakeholder environments and building alignment across groups with different priorities
- Ability to influence decision-makers and create momentum around shared objectives
- Ability to translate strategy into clear plans, stakeholder strategies, and measurable outcomes
- Ability to balance long-term priorities with evolving opportunities and timelines
- Strong communication skills and ability to build credibility with governments, healthcare organizations, advocacy groups, researchers, industry partners, and senior leaders
- Ability to navigate nuanced conversations and represent an organization with professionalism, confidence, and sound judgment
- Ability to work in fast-moving, ambiguous environments while maintaining momentum across multiple priorities and stakeholders
- Leadership, coaching, direction-setting, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Successful completion of a criminal background check and references
