About the role

  • Account Manager retaining and growing importer relationships for Shippabo’s tech-enabled ocean freight forwarding business. Diagnosing shipment issues, improving service quality, and driving account outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Own a portfolio of existing importer accounts and primary customer relationships
  • Drive retention, customer satisfaction, and account health
  • Diagnose customer issues before escalating and determine appropriate fixes
  • Review shipments to identify booking, schedule, drayage, customs, and documentation problems early
  • Balance customer priorities with Shippabo’s commercial interests
  • Drive quote acceptance and forecast accuracy
  • Provide feedback to supply and pricing teams to maintain competitive rates
  • Own outcomes requiring collaboration with Product, Operations, Finance, and the China origin team
  • Monitor operational and revenue metrics across accounts
  • Surface trends, at-risk accounts, and volume shifts
  • Advise importers on supply chain practices, platform capabilities, market conditions, rate trends, surcharges, and capacity shifts
  • Handle inbound leads from smaller importers, qualify them, and onboard them
  • Re-engage churned and dormant accounts and rebuild relationships where appropriate

Requirements

  • Direct experience in ocean freight forwarding, NVOCC, or as an importer managing ocean freight
  • Understanding of ocean shipment mechanics end to end, from booking and origin cargo receipt through customs clearance and final delivery
  • Ability to troubleshoot independently using hypotheses and data
  • Strong commercial judgment
  • Structured thinking and ability to prioritize, map next steps, and communicate timelines
  • Clear written communication
  • Comfort working in a small company with significant ownership
  • Experience with a freight forwarding TMS or modern digital forwarder platform (helpful but not required)
  • Familiarity with customs documentation and entry requirements (helpful but not required)
  • Working knowledge of demurrage, detention, and accessorial charges (helpful but not required)
