API Platform Operations Engineer supporting Sun Life’s cloud and on-premise API infrastructure. Operating Kafka, APIs, microservices, security, and CI/CD solutions across enterprise platforms.
Responsibilities
Participate in operations, support, deployment, and rollout of API platform components in cloud and on-premise environments
Construct, maintain, and continuously improve core infrastructure supporting API operations, including gateway/service mesh, runtimes, and security
Operate and support the Enterprise Event Hub with Kafka
Operate and support APIs and microservices
Identify platform defects, debug issues, and provide effective solutions
Design, run, and interpret performance and load-testing processes and implement optimizations
Ensure projects follow continuous integration and delivery best practices
Partner with business and API teams to demonstrate the value of API Platform components using cloud-based solutions
Work with business and technology partners to implement technologies supporting API governance and standardization across Sun Life
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related area
3–6 years of experience in related IT areas
Minimum 2+ years of experience in Application Support and Operations as a primary role
Minimum 1–2 years of development experience with Java
Experience implementing continuous integration and delivery solutions
Good understanding of DevOps, Containers/Docker, and Kubernetes
Knowledge of REST API design standards and API specifications such as OpenAPI and RAML
Experience operating API platforms in cloud and on-premise environments
Reliability Security Clearance required
Experience with AWS, especially EKS and EC2, is an asset
Experience with Kafka/Confluent technologies is an asset
Experience with API architecture frameworks, security, patterns, models, and delivery is an asset
Scripting languages for automating operations tasks are an asset
Exposure to authentication and authorization solutions with REST APIs is an asset
Knowledge of OAuth and OpenID is a plus
Knowledge of AWS Lambda, AWS API Gateway, Kubernetes, Kustomize, Helm Charts, K8s operators, Jenkins, Ansible, CDD, Spring Boot, secure coding, load testing, and performance optimization is an asset
