About the role

  • Director leading Board and committee compliance reporting for Sun Life, a global financial services company. Developing KRI metrics, regulatory insights and risk narratives for senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare quarterly, annual and ad hoc Board and committee reporting on behalf of the Enterprise Chief Compliance Officer
  • Develop global reporting methodologies that create consistency, structure and transparency in compliance risk reporting
  • Craft narratives explaining what has changed, why it matters, emerging risks and required actions or decisions
  • Liaise with Enterprise Risk, Internal Audit and Enterprise Compliance to ensure complete and accurate reporting inputs
  • Review, test and challenge reporting from Business Group CCOs and Corporate Functional Area teams
  • Apply judgment during tight reporting cycles to probe, escalate, simplify or reframe inputs for senior leaders
  • Identify regulatory themes and trends locally and globally and provide impact assessments, including a regulatory heat map
  • Review, create and redesign reports and supporting processes for value-added Compliance reporting
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on regulatory themes, trends and developments impacting Sun Life
  • Define key risk indicators with cross-functional teams in alignment with the company’s risk appetite
  • Monitor, analyze and report KRI data to identify potential risk exposures
  • Support senior leadership in understanding KRI trends and making risk mitigation decisions
  • Lead initiatives to improve risk measurement, data quality and risk measurement processes
  • Support the OSFI liaison office as required
  • Collaborate with senior Compliance stakeholders, cross-functional teams and global leadership

Requirements

  • University degree in law, finance, business, risk management or related field
  • Minimum of 7+ years in a regulated industry
  • Prior experience preparing reporting for a Board, senior executive management, committee or regulator
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational savvy and ability to navigate and lead cross-functionally within a complex and matrixed organization
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities
  • Strong analytical, strategic and project management skills
  • Ability to impose structure on complex or incomplete inputs and move work forward independently
  • Maturity, confidence and judgment to challenge inputs constructively and appropriately
  • Strong knowledge of the financial services industry, asset management industry, legislation, regulatory requirements and compliance risk management expectations
  • Ability to translate regulatory themes, trends and expectations into business impacts and regulatory risks
  • Ability to adapt quickly to evolving priorities
  • Flexibility with work hours to accommodate interactions with Asia-based Sun Life teams and quarterly reporting cycles
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance risk management frameworks, KRI methodologies and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency in data visualization and development of PowerPoint decks
  • Experience redesigning and creating new reporting using clear, precise, plain language while preserving substance, risk context and judgment
  • Bilingual French and English, oral and written, required for Quebec-based roles
