About the role

  • Analytics Engineer building scalable data models and pipelines for Tailscale’s secure networking platform. Supporting reporting, analysis, and decision-making across Finance, Engineering, Sales, and other teams.

Responsibilities

  • Dive into complex systems and manual workflows to understand tools and constraints
  • Design and maintain clean, scalable, production-grade dbt models, including ARR and revenue recognition models
  • Work across the full data pipeline from ingestion through transformation to visualization
  • Balance quick fixes with thoughtful long-term system design
  • Collaborate with Finance, Engineering, Sales, Product, Marketing, and other teams to understand data needs and deliver practical solutions

Requirements

  • Experience designing and maintaining production-grade data models and pipelines
  • Deep understanding of modern data modeling principles and best practices
  • Strong SQL skills and confidence working with complex datasets and schemas
  • High attention to detail and high standards for data accuracy and validation
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness with manual tasks and imperfect systems
  • Passion for clean code, scalable architecture, and reducing complexity
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize effectively in a fast-moving environment
  • Clear communication with technical and non-technical collaborators
  • Willingness to support other domains as the team grows
  • Nice-to-have: experience at a high-growth PLG SaaS company
  • Nice-to-have: transforming manual workflows into scalable data pipelines
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with billing systems, GAAP accounting, revenue recognition, or audit support
  • Nice-to-have: exposure to Stripe, Salesforce, or Orb in billing and finance contexts
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with financial cycles and month- and quarter-end iteration
  • Tech stack: Snowflake, dbt, Hightouch, Fivetran, Looker, Stripe, Salesforce, and Orb
