About the role

  • Technical Writer creating and delivering high-quality product documentation for Tailscale. Engaging with diverse technical audiences and collaborating with product teams.

Responsibilities

  • You'll use your experience as a writer and technical practitioner to produce, test, and maintain quality, consistent, contextualized, and technically accurate documentation.
  • You’ll develop how-to guides, conceptual topics, reference guides, tutorials, and other technical content.
  • You’ll write content for a diverse audience including software developers, infrastructure engineers, security practitioners, and decision-makers.
  • You’ll update and refine existing content to reflect changes to the product and feedback from training sessions.
  • You’ll build strong relationships as you collaborate with subject-matter experts, product managers, and your team.
  • You'll collaborate with other content creators to ensure that content you develop aligns with the organization's goals and strategies.
  • You’ll support engineers and other subject-matter experts who contribute to our documentation.
  • You’ll contribute to information architecture and platform improvements to help customers find answers faster.
  • You'll become an expert in Tailscale's features and products.

Requirements

  • You have at least 3 years of professional technical writing and editing experience creating high-quality, code-heavy product documentation and how-to guides for a diverse technical audience.
  • You are technically proficient.
  • You are comfortable with Git, GitHub, Markdown, and the command-line interface.
  • You’re a strong editor who can guide others through the outlining and writing process.
  • You can drive multiple projects from the beginning to completion.
  • You’re just as comfortable integrating the work of others as you are creating your own content.
  • You have excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • You're excited to learn new technologies.
  • You're interested in how LLMs and automation can help writers produce and maintain content as products evolve.
