About the role
- Engineering Manager leading Top Hat’s Canadian software team building web and mobile learning products. Driving technical strategy, team growth, and high-quality product delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Aktiv development team and drive technical innovation
- Manage, mentor, and guide a team of high-performing engineers
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and respectful team environment
- Provide continuous feedback, address performance, recognize contributions, and monitor team health through regular 1:1s
- Lead strategic initiatives, balance high-impact projects with technical debt management, and allocate resources
- Partner with Product and Design teams to define roadmaps, prioritize backlogs, and deliver high-quality, customer-focused products
- Foster continuous improvement in code quality, architecture, and team processes
- Resolve conflicts, facilitate team decision-making, and manage cross-functional relationships
- Ensure successful delivery of high-quality solutions across platforms and technologies
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, OR at least 7 years of industry experience building and shipping software
- Proven experience leading software engineering teams, growing talent, and navigating complex technical problems
- Demonstrated experience shipping both web and mobile products at scale
- Prior hands-on experience as a software engineer
- Java and/or React experience preferred
- Strong ability to decompose complex business problems into actionable technical plans
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
