AML Team Lead guiding analysts investigating fiat and cryptocurrency transactions at Wealthsimple, Canada’s leading financial innovator. Improving digital-asset financial crime controls and regulatory reporting.
Responsibilities
Lead and develop a team of AML analysts through coaching, regular 1:1s, feedback, and career conversations
Communicate team and company goals, help analysts manage workloads, and adapt to shifting priorities
Review and approve high-priority or complex investigations in accordance with internal AML policies and regulatory standards
Monitor team metrics such as case turnaround and QA scores, analyze trends, and address process or workflow gaps
Utilize and help train the team on blockchain analytics tools
Support analysts with escalation and technical troubleshooting
Act as a subject-matter expert in traditional fiat and/or cryptocurrency financial crime
Stay current on AML typologies, regulatory changes, and emerging risks
Propose and pilot enhancements to alerts, casework, and risk strategy for fiat and crypto activity
Provide proactive stakeholder updates, escalate issues, and follow through to resolution
Lead knowledge-sharing and calibration sessions, support ongoing training, and identify growth opportunities
Requirements
4+ years of experience in AML/CTF
2+ years of hands-on crypto AML experience, such as at a crypto exchange, blockchain analytics provider, or fintech offering digital assets
1–2+ years in a team leadership role, coaching or managing direct reports in an operational environment
Subject-matter expertise in AML controls, typologies, and compliance frameworks, including FATF and FINTRAC
Direct experience conducting investigations and preparing, filing, and reviewing Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs), Large Virtual Currency Transaction Reports (LVCTR), Electronic Funds Transfer Reports (EFTR), and other regulatory reports
Proven track record of meeting SLAs, overseeing QA, and driving process improvements
Proficiency with crypto on-chain analytics tools such as Chainalysis, TRM Labs, and Elliptic
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Certification in Chainalysis, TRM Labs, Elliptic, or financial crime designations such as CAMS, CFE, or CFCS is a nice-to-have
Experience at a regulated crypto exchange or blockchain analytics firm is a nice-to-have
