About the role

  • Software Development Manager leading development of BrightOrder’s fleet-management SaaS platforms. Hands-on AWS architecture, production coding, delivery leadership, and engineering team growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and coach the software engineering team to achieve high performance and professional growth
  • Own delivery planning, sprint execution, and release management
  • Collaborate with Product and stakeholders to define the roadmap and translate requirements into actionable plans
  • Drive architecture decisions, enforce code quality standards, and champion engineering best practices
  • Oversee production reliability, incident response, and continuous improvement of operational processes
  • Contribute hands-on to backend and frontend codebases, focusing on AWS architecture and integrations
  • Build and enhance the EMDECS and emdecs one fleet-management platforms
  • Ship production-grade code and participate in code reviews
  • Architect scalable AWS cloud solutions and integrate with GoodData and HubSpot
  • Drive technical roadmaps aligned with business outcomes
  • Collaborate with Product, CX, and leadership to solve customer problems
  • Report directly to the VP of Operations & Customer Experience

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field — or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 3+ years of experience managing and coaching software engineers in a team environment
  • 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience writing production code
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, CloudWatch)
  • Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration
  • Backend development experience with .NET or Node.js
  • Frontend development experience with React and TypeScript
  • Experience leading Agile/Scrum delivery, including sprint execution and release management
  • Experience leading production operations, including incident response and reliability practices
  • Experience collaborating with Product stakeholders on roadmap and requirements
  • Experience working in a B2B SaaS product environment
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Nice to have: Security Clearance with the Government of Canada
  • Nice to have: Bilingual in English and French
  • Nice to have: Experience in fleet management, telematics, or ELD software
  • Familiarity with OBD-II and CAN bus
  • Familiarity with GPS data streams and real-time event processing
  • Familiarity with ELD compliance standards — FMCSA (North America) and DVSA (UK)
  • Familiarity with GoodData or similar embedded BI
  • Familiarity with event-driven data pipelines such as Kafka
  • Familiarity with BigQuery, Redshift, or RDS
  • Familiarity with HubSpot, Stripe, and GoCardless APIs
  • Knowledge of webhook and event-driven design patterns
  • Knowledge of third-party integration architecture and security best practices
  • Familiarity with GitHub Actions, CodePipeline, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of automated testing, deployment pipelines, and release management
