About the role

  • EDIA Strategist advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility at a Canadian community mental health nonprofit. Advising leaders, developing strategy, and delivering organization-wide initiatives and training.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive EDI and accessibility strategy aligned with CMHA Peel Dufferin’s mission, vision, and values
  • Provide consultation, strategic guidance, resources, and tools to senior leadership, management, staff, and CMHA branches
  • Collaborate with People and Culture to design and implement initiatives supporting respect, belonging, cultural awareness, employee engagement, and retention
  • Co-chair the internal Health Equity committee by planning meetings, conducting research, facilitating meetings, operationalizing objectives, and advising on committee matters
  • Advise senior leadership on change initiatives, projects, and business case applications
  • Analyze and simplify complex information from multiple sources to support strategic planning and equity-focused initiatives
  • Partner with leaders and corporate functions to integrate EDIA principles into workforce and organizational policies, procedures, and standards
  • Collaborate with leadership and staff to apply anti-racist and anti-oppressive perspectives to organizational practices and client services
  • Create impactful EDI training programs for employees and managers

Requirements

  • Completion of post-secondary education in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience directly supporting and building inclusive workplaces
  • Experience designing and facilitating EDI topics, including anti-racism, anti-oppression, unconscious bias, and cultural awareness
  • Experience supporting organizational policy implementation related to anti-discrimination and equal employer opportunity is an asset
  • Experience in mental health and addictions or broader community and social services sectors is an asset
  • Familiarity with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
  • Lived experience as a member of an equity-deserving group is an asset
  • Practical understanding of racism, intersectionality, diversity, systemic biases, and barriers to workplace inclusion
  • Ability to engage sensitively and empathetically across a diverse community, with excellent judgement and discretion
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to approach, listen, build trust, and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality
  • Willingness to continually improve cultural competence
  • Openness to operating from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, 2SLGBTQ+ affirming, and intersectional framework
  • Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of diverse identities and backgrounds
  • Fluency in a second language, including ASL, is an asset
  • Ability to travel within and around Peel Region and Dufferin County
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report
