About the role
- Home Visitor supporting Manitoba families with young children through family-centered public health home visits. Promoting parenting skills, child development, safety, and community connections.
Responsibilities
- Work with families using a strength-based and solution-focused approach to promote positive parent-child relationships
- Support healthy childhood growth and development
- Enhance parenting skills and promote safety and well-being
- Connect families with their community
- Initiate and maintain regular family-centered home visits
- Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team
- Use evidence-informed curriculum and engage families in activities supporting positive parent-child interactions
- Support families in exploring goals related to their culture and values, in consultation with Public Health Nurses
- Implement home visiting practices according to provincial Families First Program guidelines
- Provide home visiting services across community settings and travel throughout the region/province as required
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with families with young children ages 0–5 or prenatal families in parenting-related areas within the last five years
- High School Diploma or equivalent, or GED Manitoba Standards
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered
- Successful completion of Families First provincial orientation and training
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to adapt to change and take direction
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use curriculum-based resources and adult learning principles
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement strength-based, trauma-informed, and culturally safe practices
- Knowledge of early childhood growth and development from prenatal stage through five years
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Internet applications, information technology, and technical equipment
- Demonstrated fluency in English, including verbal, reading, and written communication
- Ability to provide service in varied community settings and weather conditions
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 20 lbs. / 9 kgs.
- Ability to climb stairs, crouch, and kneel/sit on the floor
- Ability to travel throughout the region/province; designated Northern positions require travel to remote communities and possible overnight accommodations
- Evening and weekend work may be required
