Responsibilities

  • The Technical Leader - Project Engineer provides leadership and technical planning, scheduling, and oversight of near-term and longer-range projects.
  • Articulate the work plan the team will use to address the technical work scope requested, with a focus on mechanical and civil engineering disciplines.
  • Work with project managers to develop and maintain good project schedules, ensuring alignment with mechanical and civil engineering timelines.
  • Work with Engineering leadership and personnel to assure compliance to procedures, standards, and regulatory criteria specific to mechanical and civil engineering.
  • Establish best practices and leverage them within the team, particularly in the context of mechanical and civil engineering.
  • Communicate effectively the status of engineering and project priorities to the team, stakeholders, and management, highlighting mechanical and civil engineering milestones.
  • Meet customer commitments and drive continuous improvement in mechanical and civil engineering processes.
  • Apply in-depth specialized knowledge in mechanical and civil engineering to technical strategy, resourcing, and planning to develop quality and timely engineering solutions.
  • Develop, mentor, and conduct the overall project engineering program plan to include system and plant operational functional requirements analysis, functional allocation, and the spectrum of testing and validation required for developing effective engineering documentation, with a focus on mechanical and civil engineering.
  • Well represent mechanical and civil engineering concerns and principles with a team of internal and external customers, suppliers, partners, and regulatory authorities on technical issues.
  • Provide expert consideration of system reliability, availability, and maintainability from a mechanical and civil engineering perspective.
  • Ensure the delivery of on-time, quality engineering documentation from a broad team in accordance with contract requirements, business procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines, with a focus on mechanical and civil engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to use high-level judgment to analyze problems, develop solutions, and make decisions on complex tasks and challenges specific to mechanical and civil engineering.
  • Strong, professional oral and written communication skills to ask pertinent questions of stakeholders, persuasively convey programmatic priorities and concerns, and share difficult, complicated concepts clearly, particularly in the context of mechanical and civil engineering.
  • Be a valuable member or leader of cross-functional teams with high degrees of technical and programmatic complexity and aggressive schedules, with a strong background in mechanical and civil engineering.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff, providing guidance, training, and career development opportunities, with a focus on mechanical and civil engineering.
  • Provide overall project leadership for complex issues, ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and quality standards, particularly in mechanical and civil engineering disciplines.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Implement and promote continuous improvement initiatives within the project team, with a focus on mechanical and civil engineering processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical and/or civil engineering project management, design, or operation
  • Knowledge of mechanical and civil engineering business products, business processes, customers, and competitive environment
  • Demonstrated ability in meeting project budget, schedule, and quality commitments in mechanical and civil engineering projects
  • Excellent leadership, influencing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Experience working with Government contracts and contracting requirements
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Experience in boiling water or advanced reactors and/or equivalent technical environment, with a focus on mechanical and civil engineering aspects
  • Prior experience working with architect engineers/subcontractors on mechanical and civil engineering projects
  • IT/Computer competency
  • Proven ability to think strategically, be creative, and move quickly
  • Established credibility with peers and managers based on experience in mechanical and civil engineering
  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems specific to mechanical and civil engineering
  • Primavera project scheduling tool experience
  • Graduate of GE leadership program (PMLP, JOLP, or similar)
  • Six Sigma training (BB, DFSS, etc.) (GE Employees only)
