About the role

  • Geotechnical / Civil Field Engineer supporting ongoing construction and geotechnical projects across Western Canada. Field-based with regular travel to project sites in Alberta and British Columbia.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site constructability reviews during construction activities.
  • Conduct field inspections and quality assurance / quality control (QA/QC) activities for geotechnical and civil works.
  • Coordinate and oversee testing and verification of geotechnical systems and installations.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and design intent.
  • Prepare field reports, inspection records, testing documentation, and daily summaries.
  • Communicate directly with clients, contractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
  • Identify field issues and assist in developing practical construction solutions.
  • Support project planning, execution, and close-out activities.
  • Participate in site meetings and provide technical support during construction.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in construction oversight, field engineering, geotechnical inspection, or related work.
  • Working knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and construction practices.
  • Experience performing QA/QC inspections and preparing field documentation.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in remote and active construction environments.
  • Valid driver's licence and ability to travel extensively throughout project locations.
  • Physically capable of working in challenging outdoor environments and accessing construction sites.

  • The following qualifications would be considered assets:
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration or eligibility for registration.
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation.
  • Experience with design-build project delivery.
  • Experience with:
  • Soil nails and ground anchors
  • Rockfall protection systems
  • Shotcrete applications
  • Slope stabilization and geohazard mitigation
  • Retaining structures
  • Earthworks and excavation support systems
  • Ground Disturbance Level II certification.
  • CSTS, WHMIS, and First Aid certifications.
  • Fall Protection certification.
  • Rope Access certification (IRATA or SPRAT).
  • Experience working on transportation, mining, forestry, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working in mountainous or remote environments.
