About the role

  • Business Development Director expanding MarineLabs’ coastal intelligence platform across Eastern Canada. Driving enterprise maritime sales, technical demos, account growth, and new-market expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, target, and close enterprise-level business development opportunities across ports, terminals, ferry systems, pilot associations, and coastal infrastructure organizations
  • Lead full-cycle B2B technical sales processes from account mapping and initial outreach through ROI modeling, commercial quote generation, contract negotiation, and closing
  • Build trust-based relationships with senior operational decision-makers, harbour masters, port authorities, and C-suite leadership
  • Run product demonstrations, interpret oceanographic data products, and present custom value/ROI frameworks
  • Onboard and manage approximately six existing regional accounts during a structured 3–6 month handover while pursuing net-new opportunities
  • Represent MarineLabs at trade shows, conferences, and customer visits
  • Accelerate growth across Eastern Canada and lay groundwork for expansion into UK/European markets

Requirements

  • 10+ years in enterprise business development or sales
  • Proven track record opening new markets, building trust with executive buyers, and closing net-new B2B deals
  • Experience selling technical software, hardware-enabled data solutions, or complex B2B technology platforms
  • Strong technical and sales engineering aptitude
  • Comfort working with customer data, constructing ROI arguments, and running technical product demonstrations
  • Proactive hunter mindset with exceptional self-drive, curiosity, and initiative
  • Based in Eastern Canada or aligned with the Eastern Time Zone
  • Ability to travel 25%–50% across target regions, with occasional visits to the U.S., Europe, or headquarters in Victoria, BC
  • Direct maritime, shipping, marine transportation, ocean technology, or coastal infrastructure experience is nice to have
  • Engineering or related technical discipline education or practical experience is nice to have
  • Familiarity with maritime operational pain points, safety regulations, and weather-related downtime challenges is nice to have
