About the role

  • Staff Motion Designer leading 3D and 2D motion for Mercury's fintech brand, launches, and products. Building motion systems and AI-assisted creative workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Lead motion concepts for major product launches, campaigns, and brand moments
  • Build 3D worlds, materials, and textures for launches and brand moments
  • Lead product storytelling, title design, typography, transitions, diagrams, and UI motion
  • Define and build Mercury's motion design system, including principles, reusable behaviors, and templates
  • Explore interactive motion contexts and AI tooling applications
  • Build and champion AI-assisted workflows for motion and 3D
  • Evaluate AI creative tools for adoption into the team's pipeline
  • Partner with Design, Writing, Narrative, and Production from concept through delivery
  • Lead high-level 3D and motion craft while art-directing specialist animators, 3D artists, and studios
  • Raise the motion craft of Brand Studio through partnership, critique, and example
  • Protect craft and coherence across all moving brand expressions

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional experience in motion design
  • Portfolio demonstrating mastery across 3D and 2D motion design and conceptual thinking
  • Advanced proficiency in Cinema 4D, Houdini, Blender, or similar 3D tools, including materials, texturing, lighting, and world-building
  • Advanced proficiency in After Effects or similar 2D motion tools, with command of timing, easing, composition, and finishing detail
  • Experience building and documenting motion systems or brand guidelines
  • Ability to move between high-craft brand moments and product/UI and social work without losing quality
  • Track record of art-directing or mentoring designers, animators, or outside studios
  • Fluency with AI tooling as part of a creative practice
  • Strong communication skills
  • Exposure to scripting or procedural workflows (expressions, Houdini VEX, Python) is a strong plus
  • Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative environment
