About the role

  • Building systems manager coordinating mechanical and electrical construction projects for PCL Construction. Managing trade contractors, contracts, schedules, quality, compliance, and commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Manage building systems across one or multiple projects
  • Coordinate trade contractors, consultants, owner requirements, schedules, inspections, and code compliance
  • Review building system trades’ progress for compliance with drawings, specifications, quality, schedule, and constructability
  • Identify and communicate project risks and opportunities
  • Process critical building systems submittals, coordination documents, and reports
  • Ensure coordination of the drawing process and direct model coordination as required
  • Review and understand prime contracts and building systems subcontract details
  • Ensure contract management of trade contractors
  • Review, negotiate, and process building systems change notices/orders and assess effects on budget, scope, and schedule
  • Provide direction to project teams, consultants, and trade contractors through design-build production
  • Monitor building systems trades activity and enforce preapproved quality-management programs
  • Use the internal project management operating system to track trade contractor changes and building systems-related forecasts
  • Lead the project team and oversee overall execution of the building systems commissioning process

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Tradesperson or postsecondary diploma/degree in a related discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical, controls) is preferred
  • 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in mechanical/electrical construction
  • Intermediate knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, principles, and practices
  • Experience with reviewing trade contractors’ progress billings and assessing for accuracy
  • Ability to facilitate the coordination of mechanical, electrical, architectural, civil, and structural drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of basic construction law and ability to apply building codes as required
  • Understanding of different types of contract delivery methods
  • Ability to manage contractual obligations and responsibilities related to building systems
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with internal and external stakeholders
