About the role

  • Audit Manager and Senior Audit Manager focusing on planning, executing, and reporting on audits at Peel Region. Leading a team and ensuring alignment with professional standards in a governmental context.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of audit engagements, including defining audit objectives, scope, criteria, and methodologies.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify areas of significance, public interest, and emerging risk.
  • Ensure audit milestones and deliverables align with the approved annual audit plan.
  • Ensure audits are conducted in compliance with the Canadian Standard for Assurance Engagements (CSAE) 3001.
  • Apply sound professional judgment, critical thinking, and audit methodologies to complex and sensitive matters.
  • Supervise, coach, and review the work of audit staff.
  • Assign resources effectively, manage timelines, and provide clear performance feedback.
  • Foster a culture of integrity, continuous learning, collaboration, and professional excellence.
  • Review audit evidence, working papers, and findings to identify control gaps, inefficiencies, and systemic risks.
  • Develop clear, concise, and evidence‑based audit reports with practical, high‑value recommendations.
  • Present audit findings and recommendations to senior management in a clear and credible manner.
  • Act as a primary point of contact with auditees throughout the audit lifecycle.
  • Communicate audit objectives, findings, and recommendations with professionalism and respect.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Law, or a related field.
  • Audit Manager: Typically 5–7+ years of progressive audit experience, including leading audit engagements.
  • Senior Audit Manager: 6+ years of progressive audit experience with demonstrated leadership of complex, multi‑faceted audit engagements and teams.
  • Experience in public sector or government auditing, including value‑for‑money (performance) audits, is strongly preferred.
  • A satisfactory Level 2 Criminal Record Check obtained directly from a police station (third-party background checks will not be accepted).
  • Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • Additional professional credentials are considered assets, including: Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Post‑graduate education in Public Policy or a related discipline.
