About the role

  • Finance executive transforming accounting, controls, data, and systems for Sun Life’s Health business. Leading 40+ professionals and overseeing Canadian Dental Care Plan finance deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of over 40 finance professionals responsible for monthly close, reinsurance accounting and settlements, financial controls and reconciliations, and audit engagements
  • Support key initiatives and strategies driven by the Sun Life Health Leadership team
  • Ensure acquisitions, partnerships, and integrations are appropriately accounted for, with relevant financial systems and controls in place
  • Oversee the Canadian Dental Care Plan finance workstream, including the plan, forecast, and finance deliverables
  • Drive financial systems, data, and controls transformation using process streamlining, automation, and AI where applicable
  • Partner with Corporate and Canadian Finance on transforming financial accounting and control processes in Sun Life Health
  • Build, challenge, and inspire an inclusive team focused on transformative process change and improved management insights

Requirements

  • Experience executing digital and process transformations
  • Experience leading through change
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • 10+ years of progressive experience
  • Experience in financial services or insurance is an asset
  • CPA or MBA designation with a related university degree
  • Experience managing strategic initiatives or projects
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work across multiple functions and business groups
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent financial and business analytical capabilities
  • Advanced process re-engineering skills
  • Advanced use of digital and/or AI in transformation
  • French and English bilingualism, oral and written, required for Quebec postings
  • Ability to connect the big picture, understand the business, and manage complexity across deliverables
  • Ability to drive results, optimize work processes, and align work to outcomes
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity and changing situations
