About the role

  • Accounting manager supporting Sun Life’s IFRS transactions, policy, and ISSB sustainability reporting. Advising stakeholders and improving consolidated financial reporting processes.

Responsibilities

  • Support SLF’s business transactions and accounting policy projects under IFRS
  • Support accounting reporting and analysis for sustainability initiatives in accordance with ISSB
  • Research and benchmark accounting implications of transactions and initiatives
  • Support implementation of new accounting standards and other projects
  • Work with the Director on accounting analysis for sustainability, strategic initiatives, goodwill, and impairment
  • Research complex accounting issues and provide analytical support
  • Document accounting analyses and draft transaction-driven changes to financial reporting and disclosures
  • Collaborate with corporate functions and business group finance teams
  • Provide ad hoc accounting advisory support for business initiatives
  • Conduct research, coordinate with stakeholders, recommend accounting treatments, and present recommendations to senior staff
  • Monitor emerging IASB activity, including accounting standard amendments, IFRICS, exposure drafts, and discussion papers
  • Plan and deliver quarterly presentations in the company-wide IFRS education program
  • Support accounting advisory work related to sustainability and climate-related reporting developments
  • Support quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements processes
  • Identify and implement accounting advisory process improvements using technology and AI capabilities where appropriate

Requirements

  • Accounting designation with 2 years of practical experience
  • Working knowledge of IFRS
  • Experience in accounting research and policy is strongly desirable
  • Experience with sustainability reporting, climate-related disclosures, or emerging sustainability standards is an asset
  • Experience in the insurance industry is a strong asset
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks, identify issues, and provide alternatives
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and conceptual skills
  • Ability to manage changing priorities
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Self-starter with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work well in a team and with minimal supervision
  • Strong written communication skills for presenting findings, results, and recommendations concisely
  • Excellent verbal communication skills in one-on-one and small-group settings
  • Influencing skills to communicate recommendations and obtain cooperation across functional groups
