About the role

  • Risk program manager designing operational risk programs for Sun Life, a global financial services company. Delivering control improvements and strategic initiatives across Canadian business units.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement new Canada risk management programs, practices and processes
  • Assess risk and control effectiveness across key operational risks
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities to improve risk management processes and capabilities
  • Support rollout of new risk solutions by assessing impacts to Canadian business units and tailoring solutions
  • Support development of the Risk Centre of Excellence framework, standards, and best practices
  • Conduct research, collect feedback, and coordinate analysis to develop recommendations for leadership and stakeholders
  • Facilitate problem-solving sessions and workshops with subject matter experts and Risk Centre of Excellence partners
  • Develop recommendations on control design and operational risk management best practices
  • Maintain strong working relationships with business partners
  • Lead and support indirect reports through direction, expectations, coaching, recognition, and accountability

Requirements

  • Ability to design complex, flexible, and sustainable processes aligned with strategic objectives
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to break down complex issues into viable paths forward
  • Experience in program or project management and working with cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of risk management techniques, including risk assessment, risk monitoring, control design, and control effectiveness assessment
  • Strong leadership and influencing capabilities
  • Ability to foster and manage relationships across the organization
  • Confident verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience presenting sensitive matters to senior management
  • Proactive and highly motivated, with initiative and ability to manage unstructured activities
  • Proven people leadership experience, including coaching within a consulting function
  • Asset: Experience in the Canadian financial services industry in a risk management or related function
  • Asset: Background in first-line-of-defense risk management with Canadian business units
  • Asset: Familiarity with Third Party Risk, Business Continuity Management, and/or Operational Resiliency requirements
  • Asset: Experience in an advisory or enablement function, such as project management or process re-engineering
  • Asset: Certification in risk management and/or process improvement
  • Asset: Process/control design and analysis skills
  • Asset: Data analysis and presentation capability
