About the role

  • TD Insurance AVP leading commercial small-business product and underwriting strategy. Driving profitable growth, risk selection, portfolio performance, and team capability.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the Product and Underwriting strategy and roadmap for Commercial Automobile and Commercial Property & Liability
  • Lead development of new products and assess the existing portfolio to support growth, profitability and customer needs
  • Monitor market, industry and competitor trends and translate insights into strategic product and underwriting decisions
  • Own commercial policy contract wordings and provide coverage interpretation to business partners and stakeholders
  • Establish and maintain underwriting strategies, rules and manuals aligned with risk appetite, pricing strategies and business objectives
  • Monitor portfolio performance and adjust underwriting approaches based on profitability, risk and market conditions
  • Oversee complex referrals, renewals, escalations, large total insured value accounts and emerging business segments
  • Ensure timely, high-quality underwriting decisions and delivery against referral, renewal and service-level commitments
  • Maintain relationships with regulators and ensure required underwriting rules, endorsements, forms and manuals are filed appropriately
  • Partner with Pricing, Actuarial, Reinsurance, Risk, Legal, Distribution and other key functions
  • Monitor and report on Product and Underwriting performance, identifying opportunities to improve growth, profitability, controls and customer outcomes
  • Build a high-performing, inclusive team with strong technical capability, accountability and succession depth

Requirements

  • Senior leadership experience in General Insurance, with deep knowledge of Small Business Insurance, Product and Underwriting
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing product and underwriting strategies that support profitable growth
  • Strong understanding of actuarial principles, pricing, portfolio management, risk governance and regulatory requirements
  • Experience leading complex portfolios and making sound decisions within established risk appetite and control frameworks
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and operate effectively in a highly matrixed environment
  • Strong business and financial acumen, including experience supporting profit-and-loss and growth objectives
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and executive presence
  • Ability to simplify complex issues and align diverse stakeholders
  • Collaborative and inclusive people leadership, with a track record of building capability and developing talent
  • Ability to bring a clear strategic point of view while remaining open to new information, analysis and different perspectives
