About the role

  • Commercial Auto Underwriting Manager developing underwriting strategies, rules, and policy wordings for TD Insurance. Driving regulatory compliance, product improvements, and business performance across Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute business strategies to deliver premium and earnings goals for the Commercial Automobile line of business
  • Develop and maintain understanding of regulatory requirements, industry and customer trends, and competitive landscape
  • Propose insurance contract changes for Canada-wide Commercial Automobile products
  • Act as subject matter expert for small business underwriting strategy, rules, and coverage wordings inquiries
  • Drive the design and development of new underwriting rules
  • Develop provincial regulatory filings where applicable
  • Identify new business opportunities through analysis of customer segments, customer needs, competitive landscape, and General Insurance trends
  • Lead end-to-end management and refinement of small business insurance underwriting strategy and rules
  • Lead discussions and collaborate with multiple stakeholders on projects and initiatives
  • Support development, implementation, and understanding of contract-related training material
  • Develop and maintain advice and guidance wordings for underwriting operations and front-line colleagues
  • Provide policy wordings interpretation and coverage intentions to organizational stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain Commercial Automobile insurance contract wordings, forms, endorsements, and customer documentation, including French versions
  • Maintain current knowledge of emerging trends, business, tools, procedures, and techniques
  • Maintain risk management and control processes aligned with risk appetite
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners, and regulators to develop products and services

Requirements

  • 7+ years General Insurance experience in Commercial Automobile Insurance underwriting, including wordings and endorsements knowledge and experience
  • CIP, FCIP, CRM or equivalent insurance designation, or actively working towards an insurance designation
  • Experience developing and maintaining Commercial Insurance company underwriting manuals – both internal and filed
  • Experience developing provincial regulatory underwriting filings for regulators
  • Strong critical thinking skills and financial acumen
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of information into concise, actionable summaries for an executive audience
  • Excellent judgment and relationship-building skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make fact-based recommendations in a timely manner
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Highly developed critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • French language skills are advantageous
