Manager overseeing Community Health and Wellbeing programs and services in Toronto. Responsible for planning, development, evaluation, and team management within public health.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Director, Public Health, responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, evaluating, and overseeing the delivery of a broad range of Community Health and Wellbeing programs and services across both an assigned region and city-wide.
Develops and implements detailed plans and recommends policies regarding program specific requirements.
Manages, motivates and trains the unit's staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others.
Supervises the day-to-day operation of all assigned staff including the scheduling, assigning and reviewing of work.
Monitors and evaluates staff performance, approves salary increments and recommends disciplinary action when necessary.
Develops, recommends and administers the annual budget for the unit, and ensures that the unit's expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
Develop and administers "requests for proposals", tenders and purchase quotes in accordance with corporate purchasing policy and guidelines.
Ensures that city-wide and regional Community Health and Wellbeing programs are responsive to community needs, address the growing diversity of the community, integrate access and equity principles and reflect best practices.
Identifies and acts to correct areas that compromise workplace health and safety in situations where many staff work alone, have the community-at-large as a workplace, and offer services in non-public places such as client homes.
Directs staff in the requirements of the Duty to Report Child Abuse and Neglect under the Child and Family Services Act, and counsels staff when children suffer harm within their homes.
Requirements
A Master's degree in Health Science and/or an equivalent combination of related experience and education.
Extensive experience in leading, developing, implementing and evaluating health promotion strategies and interventions in the Ontario Public Health Standards.
Extensive experience leading and managing complex projects from inception to completion.
Extensive experience establishing, building and sustaining community partnerships to assess and adapt health promotion programs to the needs of diverse communities and/or those who experience health inequalities.
Considerable experience leading a team with proven ability to coach, develop, and motivate staff.
Proven ability to exercise sound judgment, critical-thinking and accountability in complex work environments.
Proven ability to take initiative and utilize innovation approaches to solve complex issues.
Excellent organizational, priority setting and planning skills with demonstrated ability to work under significant time constraints.
Proven ability to prepare reports, articles and deliver effective presentations and respond effectively to the media.
Willingness and ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
Valid Ontario Class “G” Drivers Licence and access to a vehicle.
