Responsibilities
Leads the payroll function including processes payroll, insured benefits and pension benefits for full-time, fixed-term, and casual employees.
Ensures compliance with all applicable legislation and tax laws and stays informed of regulatory changes.
Completes preparation and filing of all statutory returns including EHT, WSIB, payroll remittances, and compliance reports.
Issues ROE, Processes annual T4 and T4As, Annual payroll and remittances reconciliation.
Attends to queries of staff regarding payroll, tax forms and other finance-related requests.
Collaborates closely with the People and Culture team to implement changes and improvements to staff payroll and benefits processes and solutions.
Administers the accounts payable process, including timely invoice processing and vendor record management.
Prepares journal entries, account reconciliations, quarter-end and year-end accounting schedules.
Requirements
Post-secondary degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
3+ years of payroll and accounts payable or accounting experience
Knowledge of Canadian payroll processes, tax structure, statutory deductions, and pension benefits
Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) certification is an asset.
Experience in non-profit and healthcare organizations is an asset.
Strong, proven diligence with a customer service emphasis
Experience interacting with external auditors and government tax authorities.
Strong analytical skills and experience with databases and financial systems for financial analysis and reporting
Expertise in Microsoft Excel and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
